The Moon
|
New Moon occurs on 7th at h. 9-14 I.S.T. |
First Quarter occurs on 14th at h. 09-03 I.S.T. |

Last Quarter occurs on 29th at h. 07-48 I.S.T. |

The Lunar Crescent becomes first visible after the New Moon day in the evening of 8th. |

The Moon is at Perigee or nearest to the Earth on 14th and at Apogee or farthest from the Earth on 28th. |

The Moon passes 4º south of Jupiter and about 4½º south of Venus on 4th, about 3º north of Uranus on 9th, about 1½º north of Mars on 16th and about 3º south of Saturn on 21st.
The Eclipse
Annular Eclipse of the Sun:- The Phenomenon will occur on 7th February, 2008 which will not be visible in India. The eclipse begins at h. 7-09 I.S.T. and ends at h. 11-42 I.S.T.
Total Eclipse of the Moon:- The phenomenon will occur on 21st February, 2008 where only the beginning of the partial phase of the eclipse will be visible at the extreme north-western parts of India when the Moon will be near the western horizon. The eclipse begins at h. 7-13 I.S.T. and ends at h. 10-39 I.S.T.
The Planets
The Visibility of Planets :
Mercury: The planet is too near the Sun to be visible upto second quarter of the month, being in Inferior Conjunction with the Sun on 6th. Thereafter it reappears in the eastern sky and rises about 1 hour to 1½ hours before sunrise from second quarter onward and remains visible till the beginning of morning twilight. The motion of the planet becomes Direct with respect to the Earth on 19th.
Venus: It is a brilliant object, visible in the early hours in the eastern sky and remains visible till the beginning of morning twilight throughout the month. It rises about 2 hours before sunrise upto first quarter of the month. Thereafter it rises between 2 hours to 1½ hours before sunrise for the remaining days of the month.
Mars: The planet can be seen after sunset and sets few hours after local midnight throughout the month. It sets about 3 hours to 2½ hours after local midnight upto second quarter of the month. Thereafter it sets about 2½ hours to 1½ hours after it for the remaining days of the month.
Jupiter: The planet can be seen in the eastern sky before sunrise and remains visible till the beginning of the morning twilight. It rises about 2 hours to 2½ hours before sunrise upto second quarter of the month. Thereafter it rises about 2½ hours to 3 hours before it for the remaining days of the month.
Saturn: The planet rises after sunset and remains visible till the beginning of morning twilight. It rises about 2 hours to 1½ hours after sunset upto first quarter of the month, about 1½ hours to ½ hour after it upto third quarter of the month. Thereafter it rises just before sunset and remains visible till the beginning of morning twilight, being in Opposition with the Sun on 24th.
Uranus: The planet can be seen in the evening low in the western sky after sunset throughout the month. It sets about 2½ hours to 1½ hours after sunset upto middle of the month and about 1½ hours to ½ hour after it for the remaining days of the month.
Neptune: The planet is seen in the evening low in the western sky after sunset upto first quarter of the month. It sets about ½ hour after sunset upto first quarter of the month. Thereafter it is too close to the Sun to be visible, being in Conjunction with the Sun on 11th. It again reappears in the eastern sky before sunrise in the last quarter of the month and remains visible till the beginning of the morning twilight for the remaining days of the month.
Conjunction of Planets :
Venus passes about ½º north of Jupiter on 1st, Mercury passes about 3º north of Neptune on 2nd and about 1½º north of Venus on 26th.
